Meet Becky Simpson of Chipper Things

Happy Hump Day! Today, we're thrilled to introduce you to our second February Favorites collaborator, Becky Simpson, of Chipper Things. Her shop is chock full of her original illustrations and designs featured on prints, clothing, stationery, bags, you name it! We fell in love with her unique, positive and "chipper" attitude towards life displayed in her creativity, and we think you'll just LOVE getting to know her.

Tell us a bit about yourself including what you do and why it makes your heart sing.

I'm an illustrator, art director, designer, author and owner of Chipper Things—a lifestyle brand that celebrates play. I love what I do. I find inspiration in our oddities and experiences and just relay it in my own words/pictures.

Who or what most inspires you as a person and as a creative?

I can't think of any one person or thing that inspires me. I do get inspired pretty easily, so hearing stories of regular people doing amazing things makes me feel like I can and should keep going.

What’s your favorite season of the year and why?

Summer! I love the heat. I'm from Iowa and during those -30 degree days (with windchill, BUT STILL…) I would daydream about wearing sundresses and basking in the sun. I moved south (Texas) immediately after college. Now I'm in Nashville and I can't wait until it gets so hot I sweat through my t-shirts (fingers crossed).

What do you do when you’re not working?

I just went on a meditation retreat (it's really a course, actually. Intense but amazing). I meditated for 11 hours a day, so as I've maintained my practice it's taken up a bigger chunk of my free time than I carved out before said retreat (totally worth it). Also: I can't believe I'm saying this but I've really been enjoying cooking lately…historically I've hated cooking. But right now I like it IF I'm not rushed and it happens on my terms. ha!

How did you discover you had a knack for what you do?

I've always been the art kid in school (I'm from a very small town so that was always my big bad reputation). I was validated throughout life, then went to design school and naturally gravitated toward the playful, illustrative projects and the rest is history.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I hope I've found a sustainable rhythm for my health and creativity (every day: running a few miles, making things with my hands, etc.). I also hope that my husband and I are in the midst of planning an epic cross continental excursion. Oh, and by then I'd like to know how to do my hair.

Thank you so much for partnering with us, Becky! You can find all of her . You can shop her full collection at www.chipperthings.com, and follow her on Instagram @chipperthings. In the meantime, if you'd like to purchase her "Should I Wash My Hair" or "Celebrate Women" prints for Shop Deeply, you can follow the links below!
